Issues

Housing

Housing in our region and throughout the state is an ongoing challenge.  With the cost of living rising and wages remaining stagnant, many families are forced to do what they must to retain a roof over their heads.  In the year I have been in council I have supported the rental registry and rental assistance programs, as well as renter education workshops, all of which aim to improve tenant-landlord relations and to get more data that will allow council to better craft housing policies for our great city.

In a city that is renowned worldwide, we must do better to ensure that the families who contribute to Monterey’s economy and well-being can also attain their basic housing needs.

Infrastructure

As a transportation planner, I advocate for transportation projects that increase the safety of our population and maintenance of our roads and bicycle/pedestrian facilities.  We must also look at our aging facilities, which is why I have supported measures to improve our recreation centers and our firehouses. Let’s continue our investments in our community by improving amenities such as our sports center, not privatizing it but finding ways to make this resource more accessible to ALL of our residents.

Revitalization/Economic Development

For many years I have heard from my neighbors about their desire to update the North Fremont corridor.  I am committed to building relationships and partnerships to encourage economic growth along North Fremont.  I am supporting the construction of tactfully built hotels, restaurants, and other businesses along this corridor.  I have sat as city representative on the North Fremont Business District Association and pledge added contributions towards revitalization as councilmember for District 4

Community Engagement

Community members are the experts in the needs of our communities!  In my appointment remarks in December of 2022, I pledged to foster safe spaces that will promote working together and enhancing our collaborations with partners and stakeholders and that it is my hope that my presence in the City Council will also inspire Monterey’s Spanish-speaking population to have that confidence to speak up about their concerns and be included in important discussions about their quality of life.
